Get Answers to Your Roofing and Exterior Questions

With over four decades of experience serving South Shore homeowners, we’ve heard just about every question you can imagine about roofing, siding, and exterior improvements. Here are the answers to the most common questions we receive, along with professional guidance to help you make informed decisions about your property.

Roofing Warranties and Protection

Do I need a warranty on roofing?

A warranty on your roof can end up saving you thousands of dollars due to a problem on your roof. Be sure to review any warranty offers and consider what problems you are at risk of, to determine if a warranty is a good idea.

I've chosen high quality materials for my roofing. Do I need to worry about a warranty for 30 years if the product is supposed to last 40?

Most often, problems with roofing are due to poor installation or workmanship on the part of the contractor you hired and not materials. Make sure you choose a reputable company before ANY work begins.

Project Planning and Estimates

I've talked to a few different roofing companies and the estimates I got are very different. Why is that?

Different roofers use different materials that can greatly impact the cost of any project. Furthermore, there are services some companies do standard, such as replacing flashings, and costs that may or may not be built in to an estimate, such as permit expenses. Make sure your bids are as similar as possible before deciding on any contractor.

How long does a typical roofing project take?

Most residential roofing projects can be completed in 1-3 days, depending on the size of your home, weather conditions, and the complexity of the roof design. We're known for our efficient work and often complete projects in a single day when conditions allow.

Do you handle permits and inspections?

Yes, we handle all permit applications and coordinate with local building departments for required inspections. This ensures your project meets all local building codes and requirements.

Project Preparation and Process

Do I need to prepare before my new roof is installed?

Vibrations and equipment can cause items on walls or shelves to fall; so be sure to store valuable items in a safe location. Also, noise levels could affect pets, children, or normal activities, so plan ahead. You might also want to discuss with your roofer debris in your attic or outside. A good roofer will have a plan to protect your property as much as possible ahead of time.

During construction, my roof was unprotected and rain caused water damage not only to my roof, but to my ceiling and walls. Who is responsible for this?

Your contract with your roofing company should address who is responsible for the damages that occur during or as the result of roofing work. Ensure this is clearly stated before entering into any agreement and recheck your documents for an answer.

What happens if it rains during my roofing project?

We monitor weather conditions closely and take extensive precautions to protect your home. If unexpected rain occurs, we have emergency tarping and weatherproofing procedures to prevent water damage. We also carry comprehensive insurance to protect your property.

Insurance and Financing

Do you work with insurance companies for storm damage claims?

Yes, we work directly with insurance companies and can assist you through the entire claims process. We provide detailed damage assessments, work with adjusters, and help ensure you receive fair compensation for covered repairs.

What financing options are available?

We offer various financing options to help make your roofing project affordable. Contact us to discuss financing solutions that work with your budget and timeline.

Are you licensed and insured?

Absolutely. We maintain all required licenses and comprehensive insurance coverage including general liability and workers' compensation. We provide proof of insurance before beginning any work.

Materials and Maintenance

What roofing material is best for New England weather?

The best material depends on your specific needs, budget, and home style. We offer asphalt, slate, copper, cedar shake, and metal roofing—each with unique benefits for our coastal climate. We'll recommend the optimal solution during your free consultation.

How often should I have my roof inspected?

We recommend professional roof inspections at least twice per year (spring and fall) and after any severe weather events. Regular inspections help identify minor issues before they become major problems.

Can you match existing materials for repairs or additions?

Yes, we maintain relationships with suppliers and can source matching materials for most roofing and siding systems. Our experience helps us find the closest matches possible for seamless repairs and additions.

Emergency Services

Do you provide emergency roofing services?

Yes, we provide 24/7 emergency response for storm damage, leaks, and urgent roofing problems. Call 781-878-3100 immediately for emergency situations—we're available around the clock.

How quickly can you respond to an emergency?

We typically respond to emergency calls within hours, depending on weather conditions and the severity of the situation. Our priority is securing your property to prevent further damage.
